If your debit card has an eftpos logo, you may be able to make eftpos your default way to pay. If it’s enabled (and you’re with a participating bank) it’s as simple as adding your debit card to your digital wallet, and choosing eftpos as your default payment method before you tap. How do I start using Mobile Pay?
You’ll need a mobile device that’s mobile-pay enabled, and your bank will need to be signed up with the right Mobile Pay method for your device (for example, Apple Pay if you have an iPhone) and have eftpos enabled. The good news is that the vast majority of Aussie banks and financial institutions are now offering Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, with eftpos becoming more widely available all the time.
How secure is eftpos and Mobile Pay?
Very! That’s because it uses Australia’s first domestic Token Service Provider (TSP) for added payments security (one of the first schemes to do so). Simply speaking, TSP makes payments safer by replacing the card number with a unique digital identifier known as a payment token.

This means that when you use your phone to pay in stores, Mobile Pay doesn’t send your debit card number with your payment – so your card details stay safe.
What about my security if I lose my phone?
You’ll be happy to hear you can disable mobile payments, without needing to cancel your physical cards.

How much can I spend using Mobile Pay?
You can spend the same amount as you can using your debit card. This limit will be set by whoever issued your card, and they tend to vary. To find out more, get in touch with your bank or financial institution.
