Conducted in partnership with AusPayNet, this consultation invited feedback on the current and future payments needs and expectations of users of Australia’s account-to-account (A2A) payment systems.

Next steps

AP+ and AusPayNet are currently reviewing all submissions and considering the feedback received as part of a process to clearly define the desired objectives and features of Australia’s A2A payment system and help shape an industry plan. The Account-to-Account Payments Roundtable, including AusPayNet, AP+, the RBA and Commonwealth Treasury, is an important part of this process. Learn more here.

What is the purpose of these two consultations?
To help shape the future direction of account-to-account payments in Australia, AP+ is collecting feedback from end users and stakeholders through two public consultations:   

  1. The future vision for account-to-account payments  
     In partnership with Australian Payments Network, and with the support of the RBA and Treasury, this consultation will collect feedback on the current and future payment needs and expectations of the users of Australia’s account-to-account payments systems.   

  2. Future NPP capabilities and enhancements  
     We’re also seeking input on the key capabilities and enhancements needed in the future for Australia’s real-time payments infrastructure, the NPP—such as bulk payment processing, standardised payment instruction format and enhanced data capabilities —to support end user needs.   
     
    Responses to these consultations will be used as an input to the development of the account-to-account payments vision for Australia and the future roadmap development for the NPP.  
What happens after the public consultations close?
Responses to the consultation on the future vision for account-to-account payments will help shape an industry plan for the account-to-account payments system, with high-level deliverables and milestones, including clear prioritisation and sequencing.  
 
Responses to the consultation on future NPP capabilities and enhancements will be used as input to the future capability roadmap development for the NPP.  
 
This work forms part of AP+’s broader engagement with industry to support the continued development of a modern, inclusive and future-ready payments system in Australia.
